Company Background

CommuniCon, Inc. (CCI) was founded in 1970 and established in both Oklahoma and Colorado by Dr. Pamela Shockley Zalabak, President, and Carol Orr. As a consulting company, CommuniCon offers expertise in organizational communication and development for corporate, non-profit and academic sectors. We bring extensive experience in the areas of organizational design and assessment, as well as training and facilitation for the development of effective team, leadership, and communication skills.

Serving both the private and public sectors, some main clients include Hewlett-Packard, Agilent, Georgia Pacific, Bristol Myers Squibb, Harley-Davidson, Convex Computer, the European Nutrition Leadership Development Program, the University of Oklahoma, the City of Colorado Springs, Wells Fargo, the United States Air Force, USA Cycling, and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP). Because we are a small, privately held corporation, CommuniCon secures low overhead while delivering the resources to meet the needs of organizations of all sizes.

CommuniCon has delivered services for several long term term projects. One involved an on going project lasting over ten years supporting the creation of a “greenfield site,” a new division for financial services within Hewlett-Packard that consisted entirely of self directed teams. Originally working with the design team, CommuniCon facilitated the design and strategic planning processes. Our attention then focused on designing and delivering team trainings to new employees entering this new division. As a result of this reengineering and team based structure, approximately 1,000,000 transactions were performed with 50% fewer employees during the organization’s first year. The ultimate result of this project was a 27 percent decrease in overall financial transaction processing costs, realizing a savings of nearly $14 million. Further, periodic surveys of customer satisfaction resulted in outstanding ratings.

Because of the success of the Hewlett-Packard project, we have assisted other financial and customer service functions within Georgia Pacific, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Harley-Davidson Financial Services in implementing team based designs. These interventions have required ongoing coaching and development of management and team leaders, as well as conducting retreats and team buildings with design groups, top managers, and individual teams.

Expanding to the international market, other ongoing projects have involved developing and customizing an organizational assessment process for IRI, an Italian confederation of corporations, and creating and delivering a leadership development program for the European Nutrition Leadership Development Program, a leadership training program for European nutritionists in the final stages of completion of their doctorates or in the early stages of their post-doc work sponsored by the European Union, Danone, Kraft Jacobs Suchard, Nestlé, Unilever, Masterfoods, and Ajinomoto.
